Our Fertility Treatments
IVF treatment in the Dominican Republic
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
When conventional treatments do not result in pregnancy or are not suitable, in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be the best path forward. At Profert, we have been at the forefront of IVF procedures since our founding in 1992, helping countless individuals and couples achieve their dream of parenthood with high success rates and cutting-edge techniques.
About "In Vitro"
The term “in vitro” comes from Latin, meaning “in glass,” referring to the process of fertilization occurring outside the body.
During IVF, a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm are carefully combined in a state-of-the-art laboratory, where fertilization takes place. Using advanced embryo selection methods, genetic screening (PGT-A), and breakthrough technologies like ICSI and PICSI, we optimize the chances of a successful pregnancy.

IVF Step by Step
1
Ovarian Stimulation
Medications are used to encourage the ovaries to produce multiple eggs instead of just one.
2
Monitoring Progress
Blood tests and ultrasounds track egg development and hormone levels to ensure the best timing for retrieval.
3
Trigger Shot
Once the eggs are mature, an hCG injection is given to finalize their development and prepare them for retrieval.
4
Egg Retrieval
About 35 hours after the injection, eggs are gently collected using a thin needle guided by ultrasound. This is a quick, minimally invasive procedure.
5
Fertilization in the Lab
The retrieved eggs are combined with sperm in the lab, where specialists closely monitor them for fertilization.
6
Embryo Development
Fertilized eggs grow into embryos in a specialized environment for a few days, allowing doctors to select the healthiest ones.
7
Embryo Transfer
One or more embryos are carefully placed into the uterus, where they hopefully implant and lead to a successful pregnancy.

IVF with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
ICSI is an advanced technique used with IVF to help overcome male infertility challenges. In this procedure, a single healthy sperm is directly injected into an egg to improve the chances of fertilization. It’s especially beneficial for couples dealing with low sperm count or poor sperm movement. Performed in a state-of-the-art lab, ICSI increases the likelihood of embryo development, bringing new hope to those on their fertility journey.

FAQs about IVF
What is the success rate of IVF at Profert?
IVF success rates depend on many factors, with age being one of the most important. As women get older, egg quality declines, and chromosomal abnormalities become more common.
Pregnancy rates per cycle:
- Early 30s: About 20-25% chance of pregnancy per month.
- Early 40s: Drops to around 5% per month due to lower egg quality and higher chromosomal abnormalities.
While abnormal eggs cannot be fixed, a technique called Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) helps select healthy embryos for transfer. However, PGT is most useful for patients who produce multiple embryos, which can be a challenge for older women who may produce fewer eggs.
The Role of Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)
A key factor in IVF success is the ability to freeze and use embryos for future cycles. Freezing embryos can:
- Increase your chances of pregnancy by giving you more opportunities to conceive.
- Allow for implantation at a later time if there are uterine issues after stimulation.
- Prevent complications if a condition like Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) occurs.
At Profert, we use an advanced vitrification method to freeze embryos quickly, reducing damage and improving survival rates. This, combined with laser-assisted techniques, results in higher pregnancy rates.
By choosing a fertility clinic like Profert with a strong frozen embryo transfer (FET) program, you can improve your overall chances of success.
Will my IVF baby be normal?
Yes! Babies conceived through IVF have the same risks and complications as those conceived naturally. Extensive research shows that IVF does not increase the chances of birth defects or developmental issues. Your doctor will monitor your pregnancy just as they would with any other, ensuring the health and well-being of both you and your baby.
How does Profert select which embryos to transfer?
At Profert, we typically transfer day-5 or day-6 embryos, known as blastocysts, because they have a higher chance of implantation compared to earlier-stage embryos.
Here’s why:
- Between day 3 and day 5, about 30-50% of embryos stop growing naturally.
- Only the strongest embryos make it to day 5, increasing the likelihood of implantation.
- Day-3 embryos have a 15% implantation rate, while blastocysts have a 50% implantation rate.
- Blastocysts also freeze and thaw better, making them a great option for future pregnancies.
By waiting until day 5, Profert can select the healthiest embryos, reduce the number of embryos transferred, and increase your chances of a successful pregnancy.
How long does the IVF process take?
The entire IVF process takes about eight weeks from start to finish:
- Preparation (First Month) – Initial testing and medications to prepare for the stimulation cycle.
- Ovarian Stimulation (About 2 Weeks) – Hormone injections to stimulate egg production, followed by egg retrieval.
- Embryo Transfer & Waiting (About 2 Weeks) – The fertilized embryo is transferred, and then we wait for a pregnancy test.
From the start of treatment to a confirmed pregnancy, the journey typically lasts around two months.
Can I afford IVF?
IVF may be more affordable than you think! Profert offers flexible financial packages designed to fit different budgets, making treatment accessible to most patients. Contact us today, and let’s explore the best options to help you achieve your dream of parenthood.
Why did my IVF cycle fail?
There are several reasons why an IVF cycle may not succeed. Immunological factors can sometimes prevent embryo implantation or increase the risk of miscarriage. Another common issue is a one-size-fits-all approach used by some fertility centers, rather than tailoring treatment to each patient’s unique needs.
At Profert, we take a personalized approach, ensuring you receive the best care for your specific situation. Many of our patients have shared that they felt “lost” at other clinics, but here, we focus on customized treatments and patient-friendly care—increasing your chances of success.
What is ICSI, and do I need it with IVF?
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is recommended for male infertility cases where sperm quality or quantity is an issue.
What are the age limits for IVF treatment?

Does Profert offer egg freezing for future IVF?
Yes, we offer IVF with donor eggs and sperm for patients with fertility challenges.
Are donor eggs or sperm available at Profert?
Yes! Our egg freezing program allows women to preserve fertility and plan for future pregnancy.
What is elective single embryo transfer or eSET?
Elective single embryo transfer (eSET) is the choice to transfer only one embryo during an IVF cycle, even when multiple embryos are available. This approach helps reduce the chances of multiple pregnancies, lowering risks for both mother and baby while still maintaining a high success rate.
What should I do to prepare for IVF?
Maintaining a healthy diet, reducing stress, and avoiding alcohol/smoking can improve IVF success.
How soon can I take a pregnancy test after IVF?
A blood pregnancy test (beta-hCG) is typically done 10–14 days after embryo transfer.
How much does IVF cost in the Dominican Republic?
IVF costs at Profert are significantly lower than in the U.S. and Europe, without compromising quality. Contact us for a personalized quote.
Can international patients receive IVF treatment at Profert?
While we recommend IVF for women under 50, eligibility is assessed on an individual basis with our specialists.
