Egg Freezing
Egg Freezing: Preserve Your Fertility for the Future
At Profert, we understand that the journey to parenthood is unique for everyone. Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) offers women the opportunity to preserve their fertility and take control of their reproductive future. Whether you’re focusing on your career, waiting for the right partner, or facing medical treatments that may affect fertility, egg freezing can provide peace of mind and flexibility.
Why Consider Egg Freezing?
A woman’s fertility declines with age, and the quality of eggs diminishes over time. By freezing eggs at a younger age, you can preserve healthier eggs for future use, increasing your chances of a successful pregnancy when the time is right. Egg freezing is an excellent option for:
Women who want to delay motherhood for personal or professional reasons.
Patients undergoing medical treatments like chemotherapy that may impact fertility.
Those with a family history of early menopause or other fertility concerns.
Individuals who are not yet ready for parenthood but want to keep their options open.
The Egg Freezing Process at Profert
Our expert fertility specialists at Profert guide you through a seamless and supportive egg-freezing journey:
Ovarian Stimulation – You will receive hormone injections to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs.
Egg Retrieval – Using a minimally invasive procedure, eggs are collected from the ovaries under mild sedation.
Vitrification (Flash Freezing) – The retrieved eggs are rapidly frozen using an advanced vitrification technique, ensuring optimal preservation.
Long-Term Storage – Your frozen eggs are securely stored in our state-of-the-art facility until you’re ready to use them.
Using Your Frozen Eggs
When the time comes to start your family, your frozen eggs can be thawed and fertilized using in vitro fertilization (IVF). The resulting embryos can then be transferred to your uterus for implantation.

FAQs about Egg Freezing
Should I Freeze My Eggs?
Women choose to freeze their eggs for many reasons—whether for personal, career, or medical considerations. No matter your motivation, the first step is understanding your fertility.
At Profert, we offer comprehensive fertility assessments, including hormone and AMH blood tests, along with ultrasound follicle counts. These screenings provide valuable insights to help you determine if egg freezing is the right choice for you.
What Is the Best Age to Freeze Your Eggs?
The ideal time for egg freezing is during a woman’s 20s to early 30s, when egg quality and quantity are at their peak.
Women are born with a fixed number of eggs, which naturally decline in both quality and quantity over time. After age 35, the risk of chromosomal abnormalities (aneuploidy) increases, making conception more challenging. By their 40s, women have only about a 5% chance of conceiving each month.
However, the uterus remains capable of carrying a pregnancy well into the 40s and even early 50s. Freezing your eggs at a younger age preserves your fertility, giving you more options to build your family on your terms—using your own genetics and minimizing age-related risks.
How Are Eggs Retrieved for Freezing?
The egg retrieval process takes about 12-14 days from start to finish. During this time, the patient undergoes hormone treatments to stimulate egg development, with regular monitoring to ensure optimal growth and safety.
Once the eggs have matured, they are retrieved in a quick, 15-20 minute procedure. Using a vaginal ultrasound, a thin needle gently aspirates the eggs from the ovaries. This procedure is performed under intravenous sedation to ensure comfort.
Immediately after retrieval, the eggs are frozen using vitrification, a rapid freezing technique that preserves their quality. The patient can return home the same day and requires no further treatment until she chooses to use her frozen eggs in the future.
What symptoms can I expect after egg retrieval?
It’s common to experience mild bloating for one to two weeks after egg retrieval due to the hormone stimulation. You may also notice some light spotting or cramping. Most women will have their period about two weeks following the procedure. These symptoms are usually temporary and should subside as your body returns to its normal cycle. If you experience severe pain, heavy bleeding, or other concerns, be sure to contact your fertility clinic for guidance.
How long can frozen eggs be stored?
Frozen eggs can be stored for many years without losing their quality. There’s no set expiration date, and the eggs remain viable for use even after decades of being frozen. This allows women to preserve their fertility and use their eggs when they’re ready, without worrying about a decline in egg quality due to the passage of time.
What happens when I'm ready to use my frozen eggs to get pregnant?
When you’re ready to use your frozen eggs, they will first be thawed. After thawing, the eggs are fertilized with sperm through a process called Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). Once fertilization occurs, the embryos are carefully monitored, and the best quality embryos are selected and transferred into the uterus, where they have the potential to implant and lead to pregnancy.
If I decide not to use my frozen eggs or no longer need them, can I donate them to someone else?
Yes! Profert has a thriving egg donation program and welcomes donor applications. If you choose not to use your frozen eggs, you have the option to donate them to another aspiring parent, contribute to scientific research, or have them medically discarded.
Please note that additional lab testing may be required for egg donation. Click here to learn more about our egg donation program.
